How the lab works

Most sectors have R and D labs to churn out new products and services. The social sector rarely does, because funding favours the tried and proven and shies away from risk. OASiS exists to take that risk on the sector's behalf.

The five steps

From a gap on the ground to a model the world can copy.

01

Identify

Find a gap or long unsolved problem, and study why it has persisted for so long.

02

Innovate

Design a solution that is simple, practical, low cost and easy for others to replicate.

03

Pilot

Run it ourselves until it is operationally and financially self sustaining.

04

Model

Turn the proven pilot into a clear, documented model ready for handover.

05

Give away

Release it to governments, NGOs and universities to replicate at scale, for free.

Replication

Built to be copied, not owned.

An idea that stays inside one organisation helps one community. An idea designed to travel can help thousands. Replication is not an afterthought at OASiS, it is the goal that shapes every model from day one.

Once a pilot proves itself, OASiS documents it as a model and hands it to others to run in their own regions. The results speak for themselves: two innovations have been implemented nationally by the Government of India, two have been adopted by state governments, five have been replicated by NGOs and citizen groups, and one has been taken up by universities in India and abroad.

An offer to corporates

If you want to do something innovative and long standing as part of your CSR with a chosen community but do not yet have a clear plan, OASiS will help you design and implement a sustainable solution for it.

An offer to NGOs, trusts and foundations

If you carry a long standing problem, or a new age problem, in the community you work with, share it. OASiS will help you develop an innovative, simple, practical and replicable solution, using the same approach that produced its ten models.
